“Bitumen varnish” is a solution of polymer resins and bitumen in organic solvents, as well as special additives that improve physical, chemical and operational properties. Bitumen varnish is applied to ferrous metal, brick, concrete or wood.

Consumption:
Depending on the type of material, 1 liter of bitumen varnish can cover 5-10 m2 of surface.

What is the application of bitumen varnish:

Waterproofing:
“Bitumen varnish” protects wooden, metal structures, brick, slate, concrete structures from the negative effects of external factors. Bitumen varnish for wood, metal and other materials is used for long-term and reliable waterproofing of any structures and premises (basements, swimming pools, garages, cellars, etc.).

Anti-corrosion protection:
“Bitumen varnish” for metal allows you to protect ferrous metal products from corrosion (pipes, grilles, fences (even with slight rust, subject to preliminary surface cleaning and degreasing), metal roofing materials, tiles, gates, fences, gates, rims for cars, garages, etc.).

Black paint:
“Bitumen varnish” for metal and wood can be used as a black paint that performs a decorative function and protects the surface, which, given its low price and high performance, is indispensable when painting products made of metal, wood, brick, concrete, etc., both at home and at work.

Primer for painting:
Due to the high adhesion (ability to stick) of “bitumen varnish” to most materials, it is suitable as a primer for painting. A product or surface primed with bitumen varnish must be painted with paints and varnishes based on petroleum polymer, perchlorovinyl, bitumen. Bitumen varnish can be used as a primer for hot bitumen mastic.

Cold glue for roll and sheet roofing materials:
“Bitumen varnish” can be used for gluing roofing materials – this option is the most economically advantageous. For example, compared to hot gluing with bitumen, from a fire safety point of view, the use of “Bitumen varnish” as an adhesive for roofing materials allows you to avoid the use of open fire during roofing and, as a result, possible fires with unpredictable consequences at the construction site.

Characteristics of bitumen varnishes

Today, bitumen varnish is used for various types of surfaces. It is a specialized composition, the composition of which includes a mixture of polyester resins and bitumen.
It can be used for such materials as:
• wood
• metal
• concrete
• brick

The degree of coverage of bitumen varnish is quite good. It is very easy to apply. You can use a brush or roller for this work. The coating is even and neat without visible stains. The consumption of bitumen varnish is determined by the material used for the work. On average, about 100-200 milliliters of varnish composition are required to cover one square meter of material.

Bitumen varnish for wood is very popular. It is specially designed to ensure that the wood acquires optimal physical and chemical parameters for further use. The varnish is applied to this material either in a thin layer or soaked in the composition and then dried.
Wooden materials after treatment with this method become more resistant to humid and acidic environments.

Bitumen varnish specifications

Bitumen varnish has various properties. They mainly depend on the substances used in its production. According to its physical parameters, bitumen varnish is a brown or colorless substance that has an oily texture. The substance is quite liquid. Therefore, when applying it, care must be taken not to overdo it with the application of individual materials to the surface.

The following characteristics of the chemical properties of bitumen varnishes are distinguished:
• Drying speed. Usually it is not less than twenty hours.
• Viscosity of the coating material. At room temperature, the viscosity level of the varnish is maintained at the level of 35 to 45.
• Mass fraction of non-volatile substances. This indicator is very important. It should not exceed 45 percent. On average, in varnish products it is at the level of 39 to 45 percent.
• The level of strength of interaction with the material. It should not be less than 0.2.
• The degree of elasticity of the film during bending should not be less than 1.
• Average consumption per m2. All varnishes are different. However, on average it is about 200 milliliters per square meter.

Applying bitumen varnish

Bitumen varnish is used both on an industrial scale and in domestic conditions.

Important: after applying the varnish to the surface, wait until it dries. How much bitumen varnish dries, the manufacturer indicates on its packaging.

The average drying time is about twenty hours.

This type of varnish is used for various purposes.

>The first of these is the protection of metals from corrosion deposits. Many different methods are known to combat the formation of rust on metal surfaces. The varnish coating is quite effective. The varnish covers the metal with a thin layer and limits the access of moisture and air, which leads to the oxidation of iron and other metals.

> The second purpose of bitumen-type varnish is its adhesive properties. It has excellent adhesion to certain substances. This allows you to glue certain materials. Therefore, in many situations it is used as an adhesive. Very often this method of gluing is used in the construction industry. Thanks to the varnish, it is possible to glue roofing materials
