Practical tips for painting the ceiling

Ceiling decoration is one of the most difficult stages of repair. Ceiling whitening is a long time ago, today a very popular way of finishing the ceiling is to paint it with water emulsion. Painted ceilings retain their appearance longer, are easy to maintain and can be quickly updated by painting individual areas.

Ceiling paint – emulsion can have various additives. For example, you may encounter the following offer:

Polyvinyl acetate paint
This is the simplest and cheapest emulsion paint that can only be used in dry rooms, it is strictly forbidden to clean such a painted ceiling with water.

Acrylic paint
The most popular type of emulsion paint. This type of paint has an increased resistance to moisture. Ceilings painted with acrylic paint can be washed.

Latex paint
This will give you a perfect, washable surface. The biggest drawback is the high price.

Silicone paint
If you choose this option, you won’t need to prime the surface before painting. This type of paint is ideal for kitchens and bathrooms because it has good vapor permeability. This paint also protects the surface from fungi and mold.

Important advice
If you buy paint in the cold of the year, ask the seller in which warehouse it is stored. Prolonged storage in a cold unheated warehouse changes the paint structure, and when it thaws, you will have a paint that can no longer be used.

The ceiling must first be prepared by removing the old finish. This means that you have to prepare for a long time to remove the old paint or chalk. Then it is worth washing the surface with soap.

After cleaning, the ceiling is leveled with putty, sanded and covered with primer.

Ceiling painting should start with the corners and joints. First paint the corners furthest from the entrance to the room. The corners and joints are painted with a wide brush. Then use a roller to paint the rest of the ceiling. The first coat of paint is always applied perpendicular to the window, the second – parallel to it. The third layer is applied in the direction of the window.

Wait until the previous one has dried before applying each new coat. This may take about ten hours.

If you need to paint a plastered ceiling, then you can use a special paint sprayer. Using the paint sprayer will allow you to apply the paint evenly in a thin layer. We recommend that you exercise a little before using the sprayer.

Painting the walls and ceiling will allow you to create a unique and unrepeatable design in the house.
