Decorative painting techniques

The unusual painting technique is based on handmade with an unusual tool, such as a sponge, brush or crumpled paper, thus creating an original and unique work of art on the wall.

Before choosing to use any of these painting technologies, it is important to prepare the wall for this process. It must be smooth and free of any defects.

Using a sponge

This is one of the most popular wall paintings, which does not require previous experience, skills and special precision. In this method, it is important to first paint the wall with the base paint and allow it to dry completely. It doesn’t matter if the foundation is darker or lighter, it depends on your own taste. For the top coat, use a paint that has already been mixed with the glaze to make the relief stand out more and the paint look brighter. The second coat of paint is applied with a sponge dipped in paint. With a sponge, lightly press against the wall and form prints in a layer as thick or thin as you want to see the end result. It is best to choose a porous sponge or mop for this method, then the created relief will be more visible.

Special rollers for this purpose have appeared in construction stores, which facilitates this painting process.

If the interior allows you to express a combination of different colors on the wall, you can use several sponges, each in its own color and use them for painting the walls, in this way, contrasting colors should be chosen so that they do not blend together.

Layered paint

Using the most common roller, but wrapping a rope around it, you can get a very original wall color. Dipping the roller in paint and then pulling it across the wall will create a striped pattern thanks to the wrapped rope. This method should use a thicker cord so that it does not press too much into the roller.

Wrinkled wall effect

Unusual, but certainly not bad, the wall paint with a slightly wrinkled relief looks. This can be achieved by placing wrapping paper, newspaper or some other material that creases easily on a freshly painted wall. It is best to use cling film, as it will not absorb the paint, but will create the necessary relief.

Scratched paint

Unusual, but very tasteful wall painting can be obtained with two types of paint and a rough brush, which will create a characteristic relief. Also in this method, you must first paint the base with one color, dry thoroughly, and mix the top paint with a glaze. In this method, it is important not to cover the entire wall with the second paint at once, because the brush must be pulled over when the paint has just been applied, otherwise the relief may not form. Brushes can be used in different roughness, but the direction of painting must be followed – from top to bottom. It is important to clean the brush with a damp cloth after each train so that no paint deposits remain on it. You can also use a larger brush with thick bristles in this method, but if you want something even more interesting, create scratches in two directions – first vertically and then horizontally. In this way, a fine square or sieve-like effect will be achieved.

Ombre wall painting

If you are fascinated by the fashion cry ombre (the transition from darker to lighter shades), which is now appearing in clothing, hairstyles and even interior design, also use it in wall painting. The lower part of the wall is painted in the darkest tone and gradually the center of the wall is painted more and more pale, but the upper part of the wall with a different color. Fuse the paint joint with a sponge, which will help to blur the paint in a way that cannot be done with a regular paint roller.
