The same color can look very different in different rooms, because depending on the lighting, the mood changes. The room has windows and the sun shines there most of the day or just in the evening, the lighting is more artificial or it only serves late in the evening – it all affects how the color will look.
Rooms with sunlight all day
These rooms are the easiest to decorate, and the choice of colors will not be so difficult. Virtually any color will be suitable for sunny rooms, but it is best to use neutral tones that are not too bright. In such rooms, you should definitely use natural light to your advantage – choose lighter tones that will reflect the light even more, creating a bright, airy atmosphere in the room. Golden tones, on the other hand, will give a sunny effect, while light blue tones will create a cool, soothing color scheme. If you want something bolder, you know that even saturated tones will look very expressive in such lighting.
Rooms where the morning sun shines
Rooms with sunrise experience the most variation of light during the day. At sunrise, the light has a light touch of pink, which later turns blue in the morning. Even later, as the sun moves, the room can have a rather shady feeling. To make the best use of the lighting in the room at all times of the day, paint the walls pale blue or green – the room will come to life in the morning sunlight, but will still be fresh and bright in the afternoon.
Rooms where the sun shines in the late afternoon
These rooms will usually be cooler in the mornings and warm up later in the day, so choose sunny yellow tones to create a bright, inviting morning room, or cooler tones for a soothing room to relax in later.
It is worth remembering that the pale gray tones will look good everywhere, even if you avoid the blue tones, they will be quite warm in the morning and light and airy in the afternoon.
Rooms where there is not much natural light
Rooms that don’t have much sunlight at any time of the day can seem a little cold, so it’s a good idea to choose warm tones so that the room doesn’t seem too cool and gloomy. Dark orange and rich golden tones will give warmth just like neutral colors with a hint of red.
Rooms with artificial lighting
Yellow bulbs and candlelight beautifully highlight warm tones such as red and orange, which is why red is such a popular choice for dining rooms, living rooms and other rooms that are mostly used in the evening.
White bulbs create a light that is more like daylight, which makes the choice of colors more versatile – you can choose as many pale or bright colors as you want, and they will all look great.
LED bulbs usually create a bluish sheen, which you can add to cool pastel tones to create a modern image, or contrast them with warm yellow tones.
Tip!
Once you have chosen a color for a particular room, before painting all the wall area, try it in the room. Paint an A4 sheet of paper or a fragment of a wall with the purchased color, and evaluate how the color looks at different times of the day in different lighting.
